The winning entry will be used as

THE SCRIPT for BestFest America’s 48 Hours of Madness school team competition in March 2011

WHAT: Create an original screenplay (4-5 pages in length) within competition guidelines. Open to any college or high school student (this includes any student taking night courses, foreign students, etc.).

 

FORMAT: All screenplays MUST be written using standard screenplay format (this includes fonts, style, indents and spacing … click here for examples) and submitted in PDF, or Microsoft Word/RTF or Final Draft (hard copy and/or electronic).

GUIDELINES: Screenplays MUST follow these guidelines or they will receive lower scores:

Length: 4-5 page script (using standard screenplay format).

Cast: No more than 4 main characters (speaking roles).

Rating: PG-13 rated (think of prime-time TV, not cable, for language, violence, drugs and sex depiction). Implied/suggested violence may be used but no guns, knives, or other weapons (to reduce danger to filmmakers and actors). No fights, car chases or other activities that should/would require stunt work.

Story: Dramatic story with no other genre-specific attributes (to give filmmakers a blank canvas to modify your script for horror, comedy, sci-fi, etc. genres).

Location: Any and all locations are to be set in a private home.

BestFest America 2011 Screenplay Competition

JUDGING: As with all BestFest America student film entries, each Writer will receive judges’ (who are screenwriters) comments and scores on their entry with emphasis on:

 

 

PRIZE:  The winner will receive $100 in cash, have their script interpreted up to 40 different ways by student filmmaking teams, and  receive complimentary passes to the 2011 “48 Hours of Madness” screening on Sunday March 27, 2011 and to the festival later in the year Transportation and lodging not included.

Adherence to guidelines (35%)

WHEN:  Deadline for entries is Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 5pm. Winner(s) will be notified the day of the start of the 48 Hours of Madness competition in March 2011.
